Combining BOTOX with Dermal Fillers for Younger-Looking Skin

Botox and Dermal Fillers

Many people seeking younger-looking skin have heard about BOTOX® and dermal fillers, but aren’t exactly sure what these treatments are and how they can be combined for a beautiful complexion. Both of these procedures require the use of needles but are otherwise non-invasive. Unlike surgery, BOTOX® combined with dermal fillers is administered without general anesthesia and can be done in a matter of minutes. New advances in medical science mean that in some cases, a local anesthetic can be applied for patients with very sensitive skin.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to treat wrinkles. It is derived from the Botulinum toxin and delivered to the patient via skin injections. The neurotoxins inside BOTOX® target the patient’s nervous system and paralyze targeted muscles. In the case of skin rejuvenation, these are the muscles underneath wrinkles, giving the patient’s skin a youthful and bright appearance.

It’s best to begin BOTOX® treatment while wrinkles are still shallow and superficial. This treatment is the first line of defense against forehead creases and wrinkles around the eyes. BOTOX® treatments can take approximately 48 hours before the effects are seen, but they can last for several months after the first treatment.

Dermal fillers, whether natural or synthetic, are also used to treat facial wrinkles. Where BOTOX® is injected into the muscle, dermal fillers are injected into the tissue. They have plenty of additional uses as well. These include filling in acne scars, plumping thin lips, and softening areas that have lost their natural fullness. Since skin loses its fat volume over time, dermal fillers step in to give patients the soft facial features they’ve been missing. The effects of dermal fillers can be seen almost instantly and results can last for up to one year when cared for properly.

When BOTOX® is combined with dermal fillers, the patient will be able to enjoy the best of both treatments and won’t need to rely on only one. This method is excellent for patients who want to control their wrinkles while also adding fullness to their face and neck. BOTOX® combined with dermal fillers is also a good choice for patients who have experienced mild side effects from either BOTOX® or dermal fillers when used on their own.

Regardless of a patient’s chosen treatment, the desired effects will last their longest if the patient follows their provider’s directions and takes care of their skin. This means drinking plenty of water, avoiding needless sun exposure, and wearing sunscreen. Long-term results will vary from patient to patient depending on their lifestyle and skincare regimen.
