What is Ultherapy?

What is Ultherapy? Oak Brook, IL - Rejuvenate Med Spa

Many people are looking for a non-surgical procedure to tighten skin that has been affected by the natural process of aging and genetics. If you are one of these people, there is hope. Ultherapy is a skin tightening treatment that is non-invasive and non-surgical. This treatment leaves your skin looking and feeling firmer without requiring an extended recovery period. At Rejuvenate Med Spa, we offer Ultherapy. We take care of all our patients and ensure their experience with us is comfortable. What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is a device that uses ultrasound for skin tightening. It is a non-surgical facelift procedure. It is specifically designed to stimulate collagen production in your skin by using ultrasound energy. The results from this treatment cause your face to contract. This increases the elasticity of your skin. The ultrasound used in Ultherapy is different from the medical ultrasound used for pregnant women. This device is micro-focused to treat a target area.

The device consists of a handheld piece that connects to a monitor where images are displayed. The ultrasound energy passes through the top layer of your skin and goes into the deeper layers of the skin to tighten that area and lift the tissues. The purpose of the monitor is to display images and help us see the deeper layers of your skin. This will help us target the desired area accurately. Ultherapy can be used on your face, chest, and neck area to induce the production of collagen and tighten the skin in that area.

Where Can I Use Ultherapy?

As mentioned before, Ultherapy can be used to treat various areas of your body. Ultherapy can even be used in multiple areas at the same time. This means you can address more than one area of concern with one treatment plan.

Am I a Good Candidate For Ultherapy?

If you are considering Ultherapy treatment for skin tightening, you may have to check if you are eligible for the treatment first. Ultherapy is great for people between the ages of 30 – 60 who want to restore their skin elasticity. If you start the process while you are young, you can avoid the effects that age and genetics have on your skin.

Ultherapy is FDA-approved and considered a safe treatment. However, it is not recommended for pregnant women, people with pre-existing skin conditions, and people with sun-damaged skin. Before making any final decisions, schedule a consultation with us, and let us discuss how Ultherapy can help you and whether you are an eligible candidate for the treatment.

Before Your Ultherapy Treatment

Ultherapy is a non-surgical skin tightening procedure. It does not require much preparation. However, there are a few measures to be taken before your treatment. This will enhance your results and make your experience more comfortable. Ultherapy uses sound waves and thermal energy to stimulate collagen production.

Blood thinning medication and dietary supplements should be avoided before your treatment.

Retinol, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid should also be avoided before your treatment.

Direct sun exposure should be avoided for 3 – 5 days before treatment.

If you have a skin infection on the day of your treatment, you may need to reschedule your appointment.

Removing hair from the area being treated will also enhance the results you achieve during your treatment.

What Happens During an Ultherapy Treatment?

A handheld device is used to administer ultrasound waves. The ultrasound energy passes through the upper layer of skin to reach the deeper layers. This will increase the production of collagen and result in your skin tightening. The procedure is relatively pain-free. Most patients describe the feeling as a warming sensation. This happens as collagen production is stimulated. We may apply a topical cream to your skin before we start to prevent any discomfort you may feel during the treatment.

Does Ultherapy Require Downtime?

Ultherapy does not require any time to recover. This means that you can get back to your daily activities right after your session. There are some measures to be taken to enhance the results you achieve with Ultherapy. This will help your skin recover quicker and show results for longer.

Avoid sun exposure.

If you cannot avoid sun exposure, it is recommended that you use SPF 30 or SPF 50 sunscreen on your skin.

Avoid using blood thinning medication and supplements.

Retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid should also be avoided.

Avoid excessive sweating caused by hot tubs and saunas.

These precautions are there to protect your skin and should be in place for at least 5 days after your Ultherapy treatment.

Ultherapy – The Results

In many cases, the results gained from using Ultherapy can be seen immediately after treatment. Improvements will be seen in the skin of the target area. The results of ultrasound waves make your skin contract instantly. As it passes through your outermost layer of skin to penetrate the deeper layers, it stimulates the production of collagen. This new collagen then works to tighten your skin. As time passes, collagen production will increase and tighten your skin. More noticeable results will be visible between 2 – 3 months after treatment. Your skin will continue to tighten over the next 6 months. After initial results, further results are gained gradually, making the change in your skin discreet and natural-looking.
