What is Asclera® Sclerotherapy?
Asclera® Sclerotherapy is a vein removal therapy that uses Asclera®, a prescription medication, to destroy and remove uncomplicated spider veins. The entire process requires only a small injection, bringing patients excellent results without the need for an invasive procedure. In fact, a staggering eighty-seven percent of patients reported being satisfied or very satisfied with their results.
How Does it Work?
The Asclera® procedure works based on a vein removal technique called sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is a method of treating spider veins that uses a special solution to affect the structure of the veins, causing them collapse in on themselves. In particular, Asclera® Sclerotherapy uses the prescription medication, Asclera®, to cause blood platelets and cellular material to attach to the lining of the problem vein. Over time, this buildup causes the blood vessel to clot and be flushed from the body entirely.
What Should I Expect from Treatment?
Asclera® Sclerotherapy is a simple and safe treatment that is well-tolerated by most patients. The entire process usually takes between 15-45 minutes depending on the number of veins being treated and the size of each of those veins.
Following treatment, compression stockings or support hose must be worn continuously for 2-3 days, and then during the day for a period of 2-3 weeks. This ensures that the treated veins are entirely blocked and can be safely removed from the body. While side effects experienced after treatment are typically minimal, severe allergic reactions and the formation of burns and ulcers are possible.
While many patients are able to remove their visible spider veins after a single treatment session, others will require multiple office visits. These need to be spaced 1-2 weeks apart.
Am I a Candidate for Asclera® Sclerotherapy?
Nearly anyone interested in removing uncomplicated spider veins that are less than one millimeter in diameter is a candidate for Asclera® Sclerotherapy. However, it’s important to keep in mind that this treatment is not safe for individuals that are pregnant, nursing, have a polidocanol allergy, or suffer from an acute vein or blood clotting disease.
