Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Skin Tightening?

Laser skin tightening

Laser skin tightening is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure. An infrared laser is used to heat the collagen beneath the surface of the skin. Heating the collagen stimulates it and causes the skin to contract or tighten.

Laser skin tightening is approved by the FDA to reduce wrinkles and fine lines as well as tighten sagging skin. The procedure also stimulates the production of new collagen in the treatment area, which helps the skin stay smooth, firm and youthful-looking.

What Happens During the Treatment?

Before laser skin tightening procedures, the patient will have to wash the treatment site thoroughly to remove all make-up, sunscreens, oils and other substances that might be on the skin.

The practitioner will then give the patient protective eyewear and apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment site.

During treatment, a handheld device is used to emit brief pulses of laser energy. The device will also emit a constant stream of cool air to keep the patient comfortable.

The treatment area is usually scanned over multiple times during a session to get the desired results.

Most patients can resume their usual activities immediately after treatment. The most common side effects include swelling, reddening of the skin and a warm feeling.

These effects are typically minor and clear up on their own within a few hours. The results can last for one to three years.

Who’s A Good Candidate for Laser Skin Tightening?

Just about any healthy adult can undergo laser skin tightening. Laser skin tightening works well for all skin tones and skin types.

Pregnant women should not undergo laser skin tightening. People with skin cancer or herpes breakouts need to consult our doctor first. People who are using acne medication or who have a history of scarring should ask our doctor about possible adverse effects.

What’s the Difference Between Laser Skin Tightening and Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin tightening involves stimulating the collagen beneath the skin while laser skin resurfacing involves removing the topmost layers of the skin to encourage the growth of healthy, new skin.

While laser skin resurfacing can be used to treat a wide range of skin problems, it also carries a greater risk of side effects, like scarring.
