Rejuvenate Speaks on Ablative Vs. Non-Ablative Laser Types

Both Ablative and Non-Ablative lasers can be highly effective if performed properly by a well-trained and certified professional. However, despite using light and laser technology, the objectives, downtime, and results of these treatments vary significantly.

Here at Rejuvenate, we understand the major shift in laser technology and have had ample opportunity to study and practice with both laser types.

Before diving into our preferred light & laser treatments at Rejuvenate, being IPL, we want to give you a little overview on the main points of differentiation between Ablative and Non-Ablative Lasers.

A Side-by-Side Comparison of Ablative Vs. Non-Ablative Laser Treatments

Ablative Lasers

Ablative lasers, like C02 and Eribum, operate by removing the top layer of skin, known as the epidermis, to eliminate facial aging and imperfections. To allow the epidermis to properly heal and rejuvenate, these lasers also heat the deeper layer of skin, called the dermis, to encourage the formation of new collagen fibers.

In simpler terms, ablative lasers are more intensive on the skin and focus on reducing moderate wrinkles, scars, and overall discoloration. Significant improvements in the skin can be seen after only one session.

Some other key factors to be aware of are:

Non-Ablative Lasers

In contrast, non-Ablative lasers, like IPL, BBL, and Pulsed Dye Laser, work differently from the previous lasers mentioned. They penetrate deeper into the skin, boosting collagen production without damaging the top layers.

Non-Ablative lasers are ideal for addressing skin concerns related to texture and color. They are used to treat mild wrinkles and fine lines, as well as pigmentation problems. These lasers require multiple treatments but have minimal to no recovery time.

Some key factors to be aware of are:

It’s always a good starting point to comprehend the distinction between the umbrella terms: ablative and non-ablative lasers. This terminology is frequently used in discussions about light and laser treatments and will provide a general understanding of what to expect.

Non-Ablative lasers are best suited for improving skin issues related to texture and color. They can treat light wrinkles, fine lines, and pigmentation concerns. Although multiple treatments are needed, there is minimal to no downtime involved.

IPL – Non-Ablative

IPL works in a similar way to most laser therapy types. The difference is that where laser therapy delivers a single wavelength of light energy, IPL delivers multiple wavelengths. This means that IPL can treat a larger area of skin in a shorter time than laser therapy.

This unique treatment has altered the skin of many and rejuvenate loves to recommend it to their customers.
